What this app stores
The portfolio data you enter: accounts, holdings, transactions, price targets, watchlist entries, notes, baselines, saved news searches, retirement planning assumptions, and your chat history with the AI features. Daily snapshots of each portfolio's value are recorded so performance can be charted over time.
Retirement planning assumptions are the most sensitive thing stored here. If you use that feature they include birth years, salaries, a spouse's salary, expected Social Security amounts, and any property values and mortgage balances you enter.
Where it lives
Your data is stored in Convex, the database backing this app. Sign-in is handled by Clerk, which holds your email address and password; FolioTrakr never sees your password.
Third parties the app talks to
Market data — prices, fundamentals, company news, analyst ratings, calendars — is fetched from Financial Modeling Prep, Finnhub, Yahoo Finance and the SEC. To price your portfolio the app has to ask about the symbols in it, so those symbols are sent. Nothing else is: no account identifier, no share counts, no values. The API keys are shared across everyone using FolioTrakr, so these providers cannot tell whose request it is.
AI features run on OpenRouter using an API key you supply yourself. When you use them, the relevant context — which can include your holdings, their values, and your retirement assumptions — is sent to the model you have selected, under your own OpenRouter account and its terms. If you never add a key, no AI feature runs and nothing is sent.
Exporting and deleting
Settings → Backup all data downloads everything the app holds for you as a single JSON file, which can be restored later. Your OpenRouter API key is deliberately excluded from that file, so a backup you email or sync somewhere does not carry a credential.
Settings → Delete My Account removes your login and erases every row belonging to you, in every table that holds your data — including the retirement profile, your chat history and your stored OpenRouter key. It cannot be undone, so take a backup first if you want one.
Analytics and tracking
There is none. The app sets no advertising or analytics cookies, and nothing about your usage is sold or shared.
Status
FolioTrakr is in private beta. If anything here is unclear, ask before entering data you would not want stored.
